    The Seven Stages Defining The Brewing Process In Breweries

    Breweries are basically "magical" places where beers are made.

    They are not necessarily defined for their size, but rather more for their purpose. The brewing process could be facilitated in a small unused garage, or in a city block-wide brewery area. Bottom line, breweries are simply places where beers are made.

    These "magical" breweries simply work within the bounds of the brewing process, defining the levels and processes of making beer. Typically, breweries operate within seven steps, which are; mashing, lautering, boiling, fermenting, conditioning, filtering, and filling.

    These seven processes are generally divided as the "working sections" in a brewery, successfully producing beer batches. The first step in the whole brewing process first involves mashing.

    Mashing

    When it comes to the whole brewing process, mashing involves the process of mixing water and milled grain. Generally malted grain is often used as part of the whole brewing process, as well as the act of heating the mixture itself. This "heating" portion of the brewing process actually allows the mixture's enzymes to breakdown the starch in the milled malted grain into sugars.

    Maltose is the usual wanted result from this step of the mashing step in the brewing process.

    Lautering

    Separating the extracts from the mashing comes in next, achieved through lautering. A vessel called the lauter tun is utilized for this portion of the brewing process. A lauter tun has a mash filter, as well as a plate-and-frame filter, ideal for the lautering process. The goal of lautering is to create wort.

    Fermenting

    Once the lautering process is complete, yeast is added into the mix, thus starting the fermenting portion of the brewing process. By this point, the mix is officially called beer. Fermentation tanks come in quite useful in this portion of the brewing process.

    Conditioning

    By this point of the brewing process, the beer is cooled, encouraging the yeast to settle. The flavor of the beer gets to become much smoother with this step.

    Filtering

    This step of the whole brewing process aims to stabilize the beer's flavor, as well as the beer's color. Not all beers go through this step, but a majority do.

    Filling/Packaging

    This step of the brewing process involves transferring the beer to bottles or cans, packaging them, ready for selling.

    So there you have it, the seven steps in completing the beer brewing process. They may sound simple, but each is actually a complex procedure; successfully completing them all yields to good quality beer.
